About Lyndsey Allen ~ trading as
Artisan Crochet Designs

Delivering quality technical editing services and workshops in all aspects of crochet

Artisan Crochet Designs was established to share the love of crochet and to improve crafters experience of the craft.

The word Artisan means 'a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand'. Crochet can only ever be created by hand as there is not a machine in the world that has been invented to be able to crochet... unlike knitting and weaving. All crochet is therefore hand made and the word Artisan seemed perfect for my business.

I work with and support crochet designers at all stages of their creative journey. From releasing your first pattern (scary right?), to designers releasing several patterns a year, to publishing companies looking for magazine or full book technical editing services.

A designers' crochet pattern writing style is unique, and I'm all about helping the crochet designer voice emerge. I carefully curate patterns inspired by the designers personal writing style, needs and taste. I use my eye for detail and high-quality processes to consistently deliver first rate tech edit services.

I started to offer crochet tech edit services for designers, including Tunisian crochet.  With my background in complex healthcare analytics combined with my passion and skill for crochet, means I am a successful Technical Editor with a real eye for quality and detail. If you have a pattern or publication you want tech editing, simply get in touch to discuss.

I also teach in-person workshops at my local yarn shop regularly. I love teaching absolute beginners taking their first awkward loops to make crochet fabric and seeing how fast they can progress. The joy of teaching someone enough basic skills to go and make a whole blanket is second to none!

The intermediate classes I offer cover the techniques you need to take your crochet to the next level. These classes include lots of hints and tips about how to get the best out of your crochet. Workshops include amigurumi toys, mosaic crochet, reading crochet patterns (both charted and written) and garment shaping such as in crochet socks. Who doesn't love cosy crochet socks for autumn and winter months?

Finally, I teach advanced crochet skills; these classes are not for the inexperienced crocheter! Everyone learns something new even the most experienced in the group. I lead you carefully through the formation of the stitches and techniques so you leave the class being able to complete a full project with your new advanced crochet skills. Classes include Tunisian crochet, Broomstick lace, Hairpin lace, and Freeform crochet... where anything goes!

Workshops are delivered mostly from Kraft Work Yarns in Hartlepool, which provides an enriched learning environment, perfect for inspirational crochet workshops. Click here if you would like to know more about the workshops?

How do I fit it all in? I'm a lover of bullet journaling for creatives, an indispensable tool that helps me streamline my days, capture my random bursts of inspiration, and bring order to the chaos.
